Practicing sight reading

I’m working on a few pieces of standard wedding repertoire for an upcoming gig.

I have never been good at sight reading sheet music – it always seems scary, and it always takes me a while to sit down and figure it out. But for the last couple of weeks, I have found out that the learning curve is not as steep as I thought.

I had to learn five songs. Getting through the first one was murder, and I started to doubt that I could handle the assignment. By the time I received the sheet music for the fifth song, I found that I was attacking the music with eagerness and enthusiasm!

Now that I am over the initial hump, I’m looking forward to incorporating some sight reading into my daily routine. All in the spirit of promoting my plan for world domination through the organ.
