The first day of a new year is a bright, exciting time bursting with hope and opportunity. This is especially true for me, because I have found several new local venues that want to feature my trio.
This month we are going to start playing at The Standard in Chapel Hill. Long-time Chapel Hill residents will remember this Rosemary Street location as the former home of Tijuana Fats and then Henry’s Bistro. I fell in love with The Standard after eating there with my family a few weeks ago. My wife wrote an article of this family-owned business. When they mentioned that they were thinking about starting a jazz night, I jumped on the opportunity!
After ringing in the new year at Venable in Carr Mill Mall, we will return to play a Saturday brunch gig towards the middle of the month. Come on by – the food is fantastic.
I’m also looking forward to recording an album this month with dotCombo, and playing our inaugural show at Brasa, which I hope will become a regular thing as well.
Starting next month, we’ll begin to play regularly at Second Wind in Carrboro. My new year’s resolution is to make better friends with all of you and to keep in touch more regularly- so thanks for reading this and I’ll see you all soon.
