A Steady Diet of Humility

Brad has a nice Tascam digital recorder that he uses to record our shows. Back at home, he transfers the music to his computer and sends it to me using DropBox.

One of the best ways to improve is to listen to recordings of yourself play. I can listen to five minutes of a gig and I’ll know exactly what I need to work on for the next few weeks.

Yet for some reason, it is not fun at all for me to listen to my own gigs. I hear all of the places where I messed up and it is humiliating. Often I feel like I should just quit music altogether.

I think it is important to listen to these recordings with humility and with an open mind, and seek out what you need to improve upon. Be sure to give yourself credit for what you do well. Also helpful to make a list of observations.
